Rick Watson graduated with B.E. in Electrical Engineering from University College Dublin in 1976. And joined the Dept. of Posts and Telegraphs as a project engineer working on postal mechanisation and building services. In 1979 he joined Electricity Supply Board as a project engineer on power station design and on a wind power demonstration programme. In 1984 he moved to the University of Bremen as a research engineer on wind turbine electrics. He returned to University College Dublin in 1987, initially as a research engineer and from 1988 as a lecturer.
