Biography

Elena Blokhina received the Habilitation HDR (equiv. D.Sc.) degree in electronic engineering from UPMC Sorbonne Universities, France, in 2017, the Ph.D. degree in physical and mathematical sciences and the M.Sc degree in physics from Saratov State University, Russia, in 2006 and 2002 respectively. From 2005 to 2007 she was a research scientist at Saratov State University. Since 2007, she has been with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of University College Dublin, Ireland, and is currently a lecturer and the research manager of the Circuits and Systems Research Group.

Dr Blokhina is a Senior member of IEEE and a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems (currently, one of the officers of the committee).  She had been elected to serve as a member of the Boards of Governors of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS) for the term 2013-2015 and has been re-elected for the term 2015-2017. She has served as the co-chair of the IEEE CAS Young Professionals committee. 
 
She has served as a  member of organising committees, review and programme committee, session chair and a track chair at many international conferences on circuits and systems and nonlinear dynamics including as IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), IEEE Latin American Symposium on Circuits and Systems (LASCAS), IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems (APCCAS), International Symposium on Nonlinear Theory and Its Applications (NOLTA) and others.

She was the track co-chair for nonlinear circuits and systems and neural systems at the IEEE international Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS) in 2013, 2014 and 2016, and the track chair for nonlinear circuits and systems at the IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) 2015. Dr Blokhina has co-organised and presented  a number of special sessions and tutorials on nonlinear energy harvesters, the complexity of systems-on-a-chip and the nonlinear dynamics of micro-scale systems at IEEE ISCAS, IEEE ICECS and NOLTA. 

Dr Blokhina served as a Visiting Professor in UPMC University of Paris 06, Sorbonne Universities in July 2014. She was a recipient of the Ulysses programme (2013) funded by the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology. She was also a recipient of the scholarship of the Saratov Region Administration (1998-2001) and of a personal research grant issued by CRDF in biophysics and nonlinear dynamics for young scientists (1999-2004).

Her research interests include nonlinear dynamics and the physics of oscillations and waves, and, in particular, their application to the analysis and control of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and energy harvesters.

Research

Research Interests

My most resent research interests include analytical and numerical methods for the design and analysis of nonlinear circuits, networks and heterogeneous (multi-physics) systems, data analysis and model reconstruction for complex systems, system-level design, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), kinetic energy harvesters (KEHs). In addition, I have expertise in analogue electronic components, circuit theory, solid-state devices, theory of microwave electron devices, analysis of time series, computational physics and numerical methods.
