Developing as a Teacher

I consistently strive to develop in teaching as a practitioner and as a leader which is demonstrated in previous sections, especially regarding the role I have taken in enhancement of teaching and curriculum to date. My role has developed significantly since 2013 and is now more focused on leadership roles in teaching due to my leadership roles in UCD, including Head of UCD School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore (2015-20), Vice-Principal/Director of College of Arts and Humanities Graduate School (2014-15), Director of Lárionad de Bhaldraithe (2008-16). To this end I sit on many committees within UCD. Externally,as the inaugural Chair of Irish & Celtic Studies for the Undergraduate Awards, Chair of the first Irish Language Development Forum (2014-16), and member of the Coiste Léann na Gaeilge, Litríocht na Gaeilge agus na gCultúr Ceilteach (Royal Irish Academy 2014-18), I collaborate with experts at the highest levels in areas in which I specialise and take a leading role in UCD. From a pedagogical viewpoint I have participated actively in curriculum development in third level language and literature courses and seminars at a national and international level, including conferences in St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, NUIM, ICERI Madrid, and University of Ottawa, Canada.

Innovation & Leadership

As a result of my recent leadership roles in UCD, leading change and enhancement of Undergraduate/Postgraduate/Research programmes in a cross School/College trans disciplinary context is central to my innovation and leadership approach. I maintain this philosophy in curriculum development, enhancing teaching with innovative assessment methods, membership of external boards, and establishment of academic national and international collaborations. This are key factors in creating new innovative and leading pathways as demonstrated and described comprehensively in my teaching profile.
