Biography

I am currently completing my PhD in Sociolinguistics and Second Language Acquisition under the supervision of Professor Vera Regan. My research looks at first language maintenance and second language acquisition among recently-arrived migrants in Dublin, Ireland. In particular I am interested in identity construction and negotiation through second language use. I am currently conducting fieldwork with migrants following Labov's tradition of the sociolinguistic interview and my methods of analysis are both quantitative and qualitative. My research has been funded by a postgraduate scholarship from the Irish Research Council.

I have given lectures and seminars in UCD on the quantitative sociolinguistic paradigm, language variation and change and methods for linguistic transcription and analysis (ELAN and concordance software).

I speak fluent French and German, have conversational Russian and am currently learning Mandarin Chinese.
