Joe completed his doctoral thesis on corporate and financial regulation at University College Cork in 2011. He also graduated with a first class honours Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) from University College Cork in 2007. Prior to joining the Sutherland School of Law at University College Dublin, he lectured at the National University of Ireland, Galway for three years. He has also held visiting fellowships at Harvard Law School, the University of California, Berkeley and New York University. Joe has also completed a post-graduate teaching qualification in higher education.

Joe has been awarded scholarships by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS), the Law and Society Association, the Faculty of Law at UCC, and the Millennium Fund at NUI Galway. He has presented papers both domestically and internationally on corporate regulation and published in books, journals, and the national newspapers on white-collar crime. His first book (monograph), 'Corporate and White Collar Crime in Ireland: A New Architecture of Regulatory Enforcement', was published by Manchester University Press. It is available here:

Joe currently lectures on banking law, corporate governance, white-collar crime, insolvency and company law across a variety of programmes at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin.
