Outreach Activities

I am the module coordinator of MST30060 Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme which awards academic credit to undergrafuate who have successfully developed transferable skills while working with maths teachers in local secondary schools. They are acting as ambassadors for mathematics and for university.

Other Activities

I am Director of the UCD Mathematics Support Centre.

Research

Research Interests

My research interests are in Mathematics Education. I am especially interested in how students learn advanced mathematics at university. I am also interested in mathematics education at the secondary-tertiary interface, and in the area of affect and beliefs in mathematics. I am part of a "Reflection on Teaching" project, where we are using John Mason's Discipline of Noticing to reflect on, and examine, teaching practices in mathematics at third level.

My initial research interests were in mathematics - specifically,  in the area of existence of solutions of nonlinear integral and integrodifferential equations.
I have collaborated with Professor Donal O'Regan, NUI Galway and Professor Ravi Agarwal, Florida Institute of Technology, and am joint author of a number of research papers and research books in this area of mathematics.
