I am the Clinical Lead for Emergency Medical Science, a national centre of excellence for research, development, education and training in pre-hospital emergency care.


CEMS provides undergraduate and graduate courses for Paramedics (Dip EMS) and Advanced Paramedics GradDip EMS) in association with the National Ambulance Service. CEMS provides two Masters degrees, MSc EMS(IC) and MSc EMS (AP).


I am also the HSE National Lead for Adult Retrieval, charged with developing an integrated retrieval and transport service for critically ill adult patients in Ireland.

Research Interests

My research interests include all areas of pre hospital emergency medicine but particularly the role of Community First Responders, Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest and Major Trauma. I am the co-chair and Medical Director of CFR Ireland and the Medical Director of the Motorcycling Ireland Medical Team.
