Outreach Activities

Pint of Science Dublin 2015: "The ART of baby making" by Dr. Lynne O'Shea
Leaving Certificate students were welcomed to UCD on Wednesday, 3rd February for a science shadowing day. 27 students from schools in Dublin, Navan, Belgium, Kilkenny, Cork and Wicklow spent the day with UCD undergraduate students and researchers. After a morning attending lectures with UCD Science students, they were split up into smaller groups to meet UCD researchers.

Research

Research Interests

The major focus of my research is to provide a molecular understanding of the factors affecting oocyte quality. I am interested in novel biomarkers and signaling pathways regulating oocyte competence, including progesterone regulation and oocyte - cumulus cell crosstalk.

An additional strand of my research is to assess at a molecular level the effect ovarian tissue cryopreservation has on ovarian tissue, follicles and oocytes; in addition to overcoming the potential problem of malignant cell reseeding, by developing a method of culturing primordial follicles and oocytes in vitro.
