Research Interests

My primary research interests are in radiation safety in digital technologies, and optimization of these technologies for patients. My PhD studies focused on the clinical use of the exposure index value and its impact on radiation dose to patients.

I also partake in a range of educational research issues, in particular the use of problem-based learning as a teaching tool, and the impact of on-line learning courses in Ireland today.

I am also involved in the EU funded NeuroSKILL project- neuroimaging skills in dementia. My focus in this project is the educational aspects of developing an interactive website to aid clinicians in the understanding of neuroimaging in Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

Other research interests include:

·                     Medical Image Perception

·                     Radiology management and the impact of radiology services in a primary care setting

·                     Reference Dose Levels

·                     Professionalism issues

To date, I have supervised 15 undergraduate research students in areas including radiation dose optimization, infection control and continuing professional development in the radiography profession.

Research funding includes:

·                     Funding awarded through the competitive UCD Seed funding Scheme in 2008 and 2009

·                     Research funding awarded from the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy in 2009 and 2010.

·                     CPD course development funding awarded from the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy and the Health Service Executive in 2009.
