Research

Research Interests

I am a diagnostic radiographer by profession. My research interests are focussed around child protection in relation to Non Accidental Injury in children, which was the topic of my PhD.
I also have diverse research interests in equine radiography and forensic radiography, especially in relation to radiographic imaging and evidence collection.

I also have interests in the Criminal Justice System and worked as a lay magistrate in the adult criminal court and child and family court dealing with a variety of cases in England for nearly 13 years.

I have interests in radiography education across Europe and am a member of the Higher Education Network for Radiography Education which aims to promote radiography education across Europe.

I have been awarded the Alan Nicholls memorial award on two separate occasions at the United Kingdom Radiological Congress.

I am currently involved in a project working in a multidisciplinary team with colleagues from ten other European countries exploring intervention, policies and child deaths across Europe.

I have also presented at numerous conferences across Europe and details of these can be provided upon request.

I am a member of a variety of professional bodies including the Society and College of Radiographers, Health professions Council, International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists, British Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, Higher Education Network for Radiography Education in Europe, which is now  termed the Educational Wing of the EFRS.

I am a member of a panel of researchers and consultants for the Ombudsman for the Children's Office in the Republic of Ireland. I am a recent recipient of a Winston Churchill Research scholarship and which I used to explore child protection in New Zealand June 2008. I was presented with the Winston Churchill Research medal in 2010 and am a Churchill Research Fellow.

In my spare time I engage in a variety of activities from travel to voluntary work abroad; I spent several weeks in Romania, working as a member of a relief mission. This required me to work in a hospital, sanatorium and orphanage. This was an interesting opportunity to develop a variety of skills including working as an individual, and working as an effective team member in a very different culture.
