Dr. Naghavi received her PhD in virology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm in 2001. She then did her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Stephen Goff at Columbia University, New York, where she identified two novel antiretroviral proteins, FEZ1 and moesin, that block different stages of retroviral lifecycle. In 2006 she received an SFI Principal Investigator grant to relocate to the Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases (CRID) at UCD to establish her own research group.
