Teaching

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy focuses particularly on the following aspects. - Continuous process of reflection and engagement with Brookfield's four lenses of critical reflection; - Regular introduction of new ideas, methods and content; - Incorporation of research into teaching; - Interdisciplinary outlook.

Developing as a Teacher

A crucial step in my development as a teacher were my studies for the "Graduate Diploma in University Teaching" undertaken between 2010 and 2012, specifically my engagement with problem-based learning and with different methods of assessment which led to several changes in my module offerings and teaching strategies. Several years spent as a staff representative on the School's Staff-Student Committee have given me additional insights into students' wishes and problems which I try to facilitate in my own modules as far as possible.

Innovation & Leadership

As Head of School I productively engaged with administrative restructuring and academic innovation, creating and adapting my School's structures and processes accordingly. At School, College and University level and as a member of national and international disciplinary bodies I have always endeavoured to contribute to all discourses in a critical and productive way. In research I strive for interdisciplinary and innovative approaches while in teaching constantly reflect and enhance the content and structure of modules and programmes.
