Mary McGrath, PhD, RGN, RM, RNT, M.Sc. qualified as a general nurse from the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (1981) and as a midwife from the Coombe Hospital (1983). Having undertaken a certificate of ICU Nursing at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in 1984 her clinical work has been mainly in the ICU area. She has worked in ICU units at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, James Connolly Memorial Hospital, and in Australia and Iraq. Since qualifying as a nurse, a midwife and an ICU nurse she was awarded the following: Diploma in First Line Management from College of Industrial Relations, Ranelagh, Bachelor of Nursing Science from University College Dublin, Masters in Science (Nursing) from Royal College of Nursing, Manchester University, and a PhD (Nursing) from Royal College of Nursing, University of Warwick. She managed and oversaw the setting up of the Clinical Skills Laboratories in the UCD School of Nursing Midwifery & Health Systems when the nursing faculty in UCD moved to the Belfield campus in 2005. She was also the coordinator of the Stage 4 undergraduate BSc (General). Her current administrative roles include: coordinator of the Grad Dip in Endoscopy, coordinator of the Grad Diploma in Radiology; module leader on three undergraduate modules and coordinator of the Erasmus nursing programme for UCD/ University of Seville, Spain.
