Biography

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse from St. James Hospital Dublin in 1991. Subsequently, I worked as an oncology nurse for over 10 years in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, working in both surgical and medical oncology (primarily focusing on prostate cancer and other genitourinary cancers, colorectal cancer, head and neck cancer, and primary and secondary bone cancers).

In 1998, I graduated from Pace University in New York with a BSc in Nursing. In 2001, I received MA from New York University (NYU) and completed the Nurse Practitioner Program (NYU) simultaneously. In 2004, I completed a Higher Diploma in Nursing Education in UCD and completed my PhD in UCD in 2011.

I have worked as a lecturer in UCD since 2003 where my main role is Programme Director of the Graduate Diploma in Cancer Nursing. My research interests focus on supportive care in the oncology setting  and issues pertaining to complementary alternative medicine use by patients with cancer.
