Biography

Frances Howlin has been a lecturer in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems in UCD since August 2006. She teaches across a number of programmes within the school. Her specialty areas include Children's Nursing and supporting students with a disability on clinical placement. Frances is Programme Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) Integrated Children's and General Programme and she also coordinates year 4 and 4.5 of this programme.
Frances was one of the founding members of the Disability Liaison Team in the School of Nursing Midwifery and Health Systems and, although no longer a member of this team, she continues to have an interest in supports for nursing and midwifery students with a disability in the clinical practicum.

Research

Research Interests

Research interests include advocacy in children's nursing, preparation of children for hospitalisation and surgery and children with complex technological needs. Frances completed her Masters in Science in Nursing at University of Dublin Trinity College in June 2005. Her dissertation incorporated Hermeneutic Phenomenology and explored registered Children's Nurses experiences of advocacy.
