Research

Research Interests

My research interests lie in the area of theory and simulation of nanostructured biosystems. My main scientific contributions are related to structure and interactions in charged colloidal dispersions, colloidal dynamics, mechanics of biomolecules, and flocking of active particles. I contributed to the development of multiscale simulation techniques and computational packages for soft matter research: MOLSIM and ESPResSo.
 
News:
A long paper describing our multiscale methodology for modelling of the bionano interface is published by Springer. Full text is available at arxiv.
Three new papers came in the autumn of 2016: a long paper on cell motility and tissue mechanics, summarising a chapter of Luke Coburn's thesis 'Contact inhibition of locomotion and mechanical cross-talk between cell-cell and cell-substrate adhesion determine the pattern of junctional tension in epithelial cell aggregates', has been published in Molecular Biology of the Cell. Another paper is a collaboration with Taras Molotilin and Olga Vinogradova from Frumkin Institute in Moscow on electrophoresis of Janus particles. The article appeared in The Journal of Chemical Physics. A paper on diffusive-convective transition in driven electrolytes in collaboration with Roland Netz was published in Europhysics Letters.

H2020 project SmartNanoTox started on March 1. The project consortium had a kick-off meeting in UCD on March 22-23, 2016. For further information, please visit the project website http://www.smartnanotox.eu
