Dr. Rocks joined the Centre for BioNano Interactions in November 2012 as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow. Her research is focused on the evaluation of nanomaterial cellular/interactions including investigation of cellular uptake mechanisms, intracellular trafficking mechanisms, transport across the blood brain barrier and mechanistic details of nanomaterial induced cellular toxicity.
Louise obtained an MSci. in chemistry in 2008 from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, prior to undertaking a Ph.D under the supervision of Prof. Duncan Graham. Her doctoral thesis concerned the development of a sensitive approach to in vitro / ex vivo biomolecule imaging using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). This included the fabrication of SERS active silver / silica core/ shell nanostructures, subsequent bio-functionalisation via silica chemistry and imaging of inflammatory markers in biological samples.
