Biography

Elaine Wilson

Elaine Wilson is a Professionally Qualified Social Worker having graduated from University College Dublin with a Masters Degree.  She worked as a Senior Medical Social Worker and Acting Head of Department in St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin.  Having worked as an oncology social worker for a number of years and having developed a particular interest in this area, she took up a Research Fellowship position with The Cancer Clinical Research Trust.  This position involved health economics research as well as doctoral research into the psycho-social effects of early stage breast cancer on young women.

She is a lecturer in the school of Applied Social Science in University College Dublin and is the placement organiser.

Her research interests include the psycho-social needs of people with cancer, the needs of people as they make the transition from treatment to survivorship, and the social construction of illness. She is also interested in social work education and adult learning
