Biography

Research Manager (UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice)

Dr Maureen Lyons is a sociologist who has held the position of Research Manager at the UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice since 2015 and the UCD School of Social Justice since 2005. Over the last 17 years this role has involved working with and supporting academics and researchers within the two UCD Schools in the development of high quality funded research proposals, inputting into proposal development, liaising with relevant staff across all UCD Schools and Colleges to promote joint collaboration on multidisciplinary research bids and supporting staff in all aspects of project management, reporting and research dissemination post-award.

She previously worked as Head of Research at the Homeless Agency (Dublin City Council) where she managed a programme of Irish policy driven research related to homelessness as well as undertaking research as part of EU projects on homelessness. Her earlier experience of policy-related research was gained while employed as a research assistant at The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), Policy Research Centre (NCIR, Dublin) and Social Research Centre (University of Limerick). She is a graduate of UCD (B. Soc. Sc. & M. Soc. Sc.), TCD (Postgraduate Diploma Statistics) and Queen¿s University, Belfast where she completed her doctorate in Sociology.

Having worked as a researcher in UCD in the earlier part of her career, her research includes a study of religious education in Irish primary schools (Religious Education in a Multicultural Europe: Children, Parents and Schools, 2013) and a study of affective equality (Affective Equality: Who Cares? 2009). As Principal Investigator her research includes statistical data projects for the Rape Crisis Network of Ireland and COSC (Dept. of Justice & Equality. She is the co-author of Inside Classrooms: the teaching and learning of Mathematics in social context (2003), Getting out of the House: women returning to employment, education and training (2002) and Marital Breakdown and Family Law in Ireland (1995).
