Biography

I have been a Lecturer in Sociology at University College Dublin since 2014-2015. Previously, I worked as a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of the West of Scotland and Queen's University Belfast, and as a Research Fellow at the Employment Research Centre in the Department of Sociology at Trinity College Dublin. I received my PhD in Sociology from TCD in 2001.

I have also worked on a number of Irish and European funded research projects and consultancies, including two multinational, comparative European Commission funded research projects on the role of universities in regional development (fourth framework) and flexibility and competitiveness: labour market flexibility, innovation and competitiveness (fifth framework).

Currently, my research is concerned with issues related to comparative immigration, integration, social cohesion and social change as reflected in my recent publications: Social Cohesion and Social Change in Europe (20015) (eds) Boucher, G. and Samad, Y., London: Routledge, and Limits of Liberal Individual Integration: Comparing Australian, British and Canadian Citizenship Guides (2015), Nordic Journal of Migration Research, 5:4, pp. 160-167.

I have been Masters Coordinator in the UCD School of Sociology since 2014-2015, and module coordinator of the following courses: Race & Ethnicity (2014-2015); Migration, Race & Ethnicity (2015-2016); Sociology of Contemporary Life (2014-2016); Ireland in Comparative Perspective (2015-2016); and Dissertation Preparation Workshop (2014-2016).
