Major Bids

A substantial and increasing proportion of external research funding is now being directed towards major programmes, particularly large inter-institutional collaborations.  The scale and complexity of major proposals is such that often more direct support is needed from research administration.

Funding for major programmes is available via national and international sources, and UCD Research has general guidelines and information relevant to each.

A major proposal (over €5 million in budget) in a Priority Theme of the University will be supported by a Research Partner and the UCD Research Programmes Team. Typical activities include assisting with: identifying funding sources, liaising with funders, developing external partnerships, proposal development and templates, articulating social & economic impact, running rehearsal reviews and panels, sourcing external support services.

Examples of major programmes include:

  • SFI Centres and large SFI Spokes
  • EI Technology Centres
  • SFI Research Professorships
  • SFI Research Partnership Programme
  • Coordination of large H2020 consortia
  • Large infrastructure calls
  • Major philanthropic awards
