People / Fellowship Programmes

There are a range of funding mechanisms available to support the development of research careers and excellence in research and innovation. Opportunities exist for researchers at all career stages and across all disciplines to apply for funding to develop their career through grants which will enable them to pursue cutting edge individual research projects, build their own independent research teams, collaborate with partners outside academia and embark on innovative research training.

Examples of these schemes include:

  • Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Industry Fellowships
  • SFI Starting Independent Research Grant (SIRG)
  • SFI-Royal Society University Research Fellowships
  • SFI Career Development Award (CDA)
  • Irish Research Council Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships
  • European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant
  • ERC Consolidator Grant
  • Wellcome Trust Fellowships
  • Wellcome Trust Investigator Awards

Advanced Career:

  • European Research Council Advanced Grant
  • Health Research Board Research Leaders Awards
  • SFI Research Professorships
  • Wellcome Trust Investigator Awards

These programmes are funded by national and international sources, and UCD Research has guidelines and information relevant to many of the calls:

For certain calls of high volume and/or strategic importance to the University specific help notes and review processes are created and made available on the intranet. Other enhanced supports such as consultant led training; proposal writing workshops, mentoring etc are also made available for these types of calls. These supports will be communicated to the research community where available.
