Process - Profiling Research Excellence
Bibliometric Analysis
The Steering Group recognised the limitations of Bibliometric
Analysis for certain disciplines, but concluded that all academic units
should undertake the same initial step. Peer review visits will also be
used to provide a balanced view of research in all academic units.
In September 2007, UCD issued an invitation to tender for the
provision of Bibliometric Analysis. In November 2007 CWTS Leiden was
selected by the Steering Group as the preferred supplier. The
Bibliometric Analysis process has 2 stages, which are outlined below:
- ISI/Thompson Scientific Data Validation:
- A collection of data from ISI/ Thompson Scientific, covering the period 1998 – 2007 (inclusive) was taken.
- The indices included are the Science Citation Index (SCI), the
Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and the Arts & Humanities
Citation Index (AHCI).
- Only publications classified as '(normal) articles', 'reviews', 'letters' and 'notes' are included in the publication lists.
- Only publications which you believe should appear in ISI/Thompson
Scientific should be added to the record at this stage. All other
publications will be addressed in Stage 2.
- RMS Data Validation
- The second stage, which is planned for September 2008, will
include ALL additional publication records contained in the RMS
Profiles system. This includes books, book chapters, reports,
conference papers, etc.
Peer Review - Process
The scope, timing and format of the peer review site visits will be
decided by the Steering Group in the coming academic year.
