Q. Who is included in the Profiling Research Excellence study?
A. All permanent academic staff are included in the study. PhD students are not included.
Q. I am a permanent academic staff member – why have I not been invited to validate my data on the CWTS website?
A. An email was only sent to staff where CWTS found one or more publications for them in ISI / Thompson Scientific. Any staff members for which no publications were found were not emailed at this stage. Publications for these staff will be directly extracted from RMS Profiles in Stage 2. Please ensure your Profile is up to date.
Q. I have 100+ publications in ISI/Thompson Scientific, why are there only 50+ listed on the website?
A. The website shows 50 because it is only taking publications form 1998 to 2007 and only publications classified as '(normal) articles', 'reviews', 'letters' and 'notes' are included in the publication lists. It is also possible to add additional publications to the website using the "Additions" button. The added publications will not appear immediately on your list of publications; they are first checked by CWTS to ensure that they are valid for the study before they are added.
Q. Having attempted to validate my list, I discovered there are some missing publications from the ISI Thomson database. While the website says additions may be added by clicking on an ‘Additions’ button in the left panel, I can find no left panel and no such button.
A. Once the submit button is pressed for the first time, an "Additions" button appears in the left panel that can be used to enter the bibliographic details of additional papers.
Q. The supplied username/password does not allow me to submit my list of publications
A. Sometimes the username and password must be submitted twice in order to work, if the problem persists, contact vcd_2008@cwts.leidenuniv.nl
Q. I’m getting a software error message from the link to the CWTS website.
A. Email vcd_2008@cwts.leidenuniv.nl with a description of the problem.
Q. The email message said that the CWTS list was checked against my RMS Profile, I have 200+ publications on my RMS Profile and only have 50 on the CWTS website, why has this happened?
A. The initial stage of the Profiling Research Excellence process is concerned with publications that are listed in the ISI/Thompson Scientific Science Citation Index (SCI), the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI). Stage 2 of the Profiling Research Excellence process will look at all the other publications that are contained in your Profile.
