PRTLI Overview

• The Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions (PRTLI) has invested €865 million  in strengthening national research capabilities over four cycles of funding since 1998.
• The aim of the programme is to develop an international reputation for research and development excellence in Ireland.
• The programme supports research in humanities, science, technology and the social sciences, including business and law.
• PRTLI has made funds available for the development of physical research resources and for the recruitment of leading research talent in Irish universities.
• UCD has benefited from PRTLI funding to the tune of €164.5 million since 1998.
• Over 15,000 square metres of physical research space have been built on the UCD campus thanks to PRTLI funds.
• Collaborative research institutes established within UCD on foot of PRTLI awards are quickly gaining an international reputation for excellence in their relevant research fields.
