David Brayden is an Associate Professor and Director of Research Innovation at the UCD School of Agriculture, Food Science & Veterinary Medicine, and a Principal Investigator at the UCD Conway Institute, where he is spearheading a major SFI-funded drug-delivery project

Professor Brayden joined UCD in 2001 as a lecturer in veterinary pharmacology; he was appointed to Associate Professor in 2006 and became his School’s Director of Research. He is the lead Principal Investigator on the Irish Drug Delivery Network (IDDN), a SFI Strategic Research Cluster that was awarded €5.2m in November 2007. The Schools of Pharmacy in UCC, RCSI and Trinity College are academic partners on the project, while Genzyme Ireland, Sigmoid Biotechnologies and Warwick Effect Polymers provide the industrial input. Professor Brayden is currently researching the topic of oral delivery of novel mucoadhesive polymeric peptide conjugates.

Professor Brayden is the author or co-author of more than 100 research publications and patents. He also serves on the editorial advisory boards of a number of leading pharmaceutical journals.

Professor Brayden serves on the main UCD Research Ethics Committee, as well as on the President's Research Strategy Board. On the teaching side, he co-ordinates undergraduate modules on Biological Fluids and Drug Development, and contributes to modules on Cell Communication and to Fourth Level programmes.
