Reproductive physiology in farm animals, such as dairy cattle, forms the core research interest of Professor Alex Evans. His expertise in this area contributed to his appointment as lead Principal Investigator (PI) of the Reproductive Biology Research Cluster, a €10m multidisciplinary, inter-university research project, which got under way in December 2007.

Funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and industrial partners, the five-year project will study the cellular and molecular basis for poor fertility and then use these findings to develop new diagnostic tools and clinical therapies.

Professor Evans teaches several undergraduate courses in animal physiology at UCD. He is also chair of the Animal Research Ethics Committee, a sub-committee of UCD’s Ethics Committee.
