Professor of Biosystems Engineering at UCD, Da-Wen Sun is a leading authority on food technology and food engineering. He has published numerous research papers on food engineering/processing and edits key international journals in the area.

In recent years, Professor Da-Wen Sun has won funding from various agencies including the European Commission Framework Programme,
Science Foundation Ireland, the
Department of Agriculture & Food,
Enterprise Ireland and
Teagasc.
This has provided funds to conduct research projects on such topics as the rapid cooling of cooked beef; new techniques to enhance the food-freezing process; and evaluating beef quality using novel computer-vision techniques. He is the recipient of several national and international awards including the International Commission of Agricultural Engineering (CIGR) Merit Award (2005) and the President's Research Fellowship (2004).
