Professor Mark S. Rogers BA, PhD
A geneticist and international expert on prion diseases and their transmission, Prof Mark Rogers has developed commercially successful immunodiagnostic technologies that are now widely used for BSE testing within the EU.

Prof Mark Rogers’ principal research focus is the genetics, cell biology and transmission of prion diseases and their diagnosis. Additional interests include molecular epidemiology of animal diseases and the development of improved methods for antibody development.
Prof Rogers has conducted groundbreaking research in the field of Scrapie in sheep and BSE in cattle. He has also successfully licensed immunodiagnostic technologies that have been employed in BSE diagnosis, which has resulted in over €2 million in royalties accruing to the university.
Prof Mark Rogers has led several major research projects that have received European Commission Framework Programme funding and was the recipient of the NovaUCD Innovation Award in 2004.
