Centre for Synthesis and Chemical Biology (CSCB)

CSCB research provides an understanding of the chemical basis of biology and development, and the use of biological and chemical tools for chemistry, biology and medicine.

About CSCB

The centre was established in December 2001 and currently has 45 Principal Investigators and 270 researchers working in the centre.

Funding

The centre received over €30m in funding from Cycles 3 & 4 of the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (PRTLI) and has since been awarded in excess of €41m in external funding.

Key area of research

Identification of molecular mechanisms underlying human and animal diseases in the areas of:

Outputs

To date, CSCB researchers have published over 300 scientific publications. In addition to the Principal Investigators and researchers, there have been 100 PhD graduates and over 50 postdoctoral fellows working in labs supervised by its investigators. These scientists will play a pivotal role in the existing pharmaceutical and emerging biopharmaceutical industry in Ireland.

Collaboration

The CSCB is a collaboration in the chemical sciences between University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The CSCB forms part of the UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research.
