The IFHRA is an alliance of universities and research institutes on the island of Ireland with a strategic commitment to research in the area of food and health.
A major initiative is underway in Europe to map out the optimal direction of research in food and health for the EU. This initiative is called the European Technology Platform "Food for Life". It brings together members from acadaemia, industry and funding agencies. IFHRA aims to complement this activity on the island of Ireland.
IFHRA was funded by the HEA under PRTLI Cycle 4. In excess of €50m has been committed during 2008-2009.

The UCD Institute of Food and Health is part of the IFHRA consortium and is a major campus-wide initiative at UCD focusing on developing and conducting world class, multidisciplinary research into all areas of food and health, including:
The Irish government’s Strategy for Science Technology and Innovation envisages a very significant growth in the number of PhD students in Ireland and IFHRA plans to complement this growth in PhD studentships.
IFHRA partners are Teagasc, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, University College Dublin, University of Limerick, University of Ulster and Queen's University Belfast.
