Postdocs - Booking a Career Development Meeting and Mock Panel Interview for Academic Jobs

Along with one-to-one careers meetings with your PI, as a UCD Postdoc you are entitled to at least three confidential one-to-one career development meetings with the Research Careers team over the course of your contract.

To book a meeting, go to Careersconnect once you have opened a Postdoc Careersconnect account. To do this, please contact with your UCD Connect Login Username.


There are four types of meetings:

1.  Intro meeting: 30 mins. Information sharing. For anyone who has started their contract within the last 3 months and has not already had a one-to-one meeting. On Careersconnect book: Postdoctoral Researchers Introductory meeting

2. Development meeting: 45mins - 1 hour. Coaching session. Developing your career strategy, exploring your options, considering the future, in-depth interview prep. On Careersconnect book: Postdoctoral Researchers Development meeting

3. Query meeting: 30 mins. Follow-up/ check-in after a development meeting or to discuss a specific query (e.g. CV review, interview or mock-interview debrief, negotiating a new contract/ salary). On Careersconnect book: Postdoctoral Researchers Query/ Exit meeting. 

4. Exit  meeting: 30 mins. For when you have secured a new role or when you have 3 months or less left on your contract. An opportunity to reflect on your professional development, feed back any information that might support other postdocs and consider your own career development going forward. All meetings are confidential, in accordance with AHECS and AGCAS codes of practice.


Mock Interview Panel for Academic Jobs


As a postdoc, you can avail of a mock panel interview where you receive feedback on your interview presentation from the Careers office and relevant academics.

How to do this: Once you have been called to interview, you should identify two suitable PIs who are happy to take part in your interview panel and put them in touch with Naoimh OConnor in Research Careers who will coordinate the session. You will also need to send the job description and your application to the PIs and

The session lasts approx 1 hour - 10mins presentation, 30min interview, 20 min feedback.
