An employer / researcher Networking Event for the Agri-Food / Vet areas will take place next Thursday, Nov 29th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. The aim of the event is to give Post-Doctoral Researchers an insight into the sector and it will focus on: • the types of opportunities available for researchers • the types of skills and attributes sought by employers from candidates • the key trends and likely developments within the sector over the next few years.

Facilitating Learning in Occasional Teaching (24/02/2012)
UCD Research Skills & Career Development will pilot a half day workshop on 2 March in the area of facilitating learning. The workshop will cover a range of teaching challenges the post-doctoral researcher may encounter when asked to provide occasional teaching in a university context. Participants will have an opportunity to engage with teaching professionals about best teaching practices and to discover teaching resources and supports available to them in the university.

The first workshop - Developing Professional Researcher Networks - will provide you with the skills to conduct effective professional networking conversations and to use networking as a tool for developing your professional networks. The second workshop - Managing Research Projects - will introduce researchers to the skills to proactively manage their research projects effectively, through all stages of planning, preparation and delivery of targets through the course of their research programme.

UCD Research Skills & Career Development are running a one day programme for postdocs and early career researchers on 27 January. This programme will provide participants with the opportunity to develop and acquire the skills, knowledge and attributes that tend to be associated with research leaders. Among these are things like high level interpersonal skills, leadership skills, delegation, thinking strategically, self-management and the ability to promote yourself.
