Career Advice & Support Service

 

A dedicated career advisory service is available to Post-Doctoral Fellows providing a range of services including personal and computer-based guidance, information resources and links with employers. 


Throughout the year a number of career events will be run providing you with an opportunity to find out about career options, meet potential employers and attend talks and seminars on job seeking. 

Careers Seminars

Seminars are hosted throughout term-time on topics such as Writing CVs and Cover Letters, Interview Preparation, employer presentations and career related topics.

Psychometric Tests

Psychometric tests are very useful in career planning, helping you understand more about your strengths and how these might shape your career and personal choices. There are several types of psychometric tests that can be useful to you.

Profiling for Success

Profiling for Success brings together a wide range of different tests and questionnaires that explore people’s talents, skills, potential and style.  To access this test please email careers@ucd.ie.

Prospects Planner

Prospect Planner is a job exploration tool which will help you to:

  • Identify what you want out of a job; generate new job ideas and check out your existing ones
  • Find out what motivates you in a job; identify your skills and what you can offer to the job/employer
  • See how these match the jobs you are considering
  • Research your chosen jobs in more detail, compare your options and decide on the right choices for you.

Destinations

Destinations is a career planning resource designed to help you to manage your career from university to work and beyond. This website has been developed by the University of Reading, with local Irish content produced by the UCD Career Development Centre and the University of Limerick Careers Service. Destinations can help you to:

  • Learn more about your career and lifestyle preferences
  • Recognise what you can offer the world of work and what it can offer you
  • Think broadly about career options and patterns of work
  • Pursue career ideas
  • Identify actions you can take now to start your career journey.
