Supporting Research - 'Library Services that will make your life easier' Seminar - 30 November 2010

Do you know?

  • How to get to the sources you have identified?
  • How to follow a research trail?
  • How to get a different angle on your research using alternative tools?
  • How to make your research visible and cited?

This presentation will cover six ''soundbite'' themes aimed to whet your appetite and let you discover the array of library resources and services available to support your research.

  • The overall scope of the most relevant library resources and research services and how to find information on these
  • Locating different types of research in your area e.g. theses, conference papers, pre-prints, journal articles
  • Locating the source you’ve identified using Google Scholar, Findit@UCD Library and the interlibrary loans’ service – accessing resources from home
  • Following a research trail; using sources and services such as Web of Science; setting up alerts to keep you informed
  • Getting a different angle on your research using sources such as patents, standards and newspapers
  • Getting visibility and getting your research cited: UCD’s Institutional Repository and citation analysis.

The session will use as its example a variety of research questions derived from all disciplines within the College of Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Sciences.
