Patents & Intellectual Property - their relevance to your research (Workshop) - 5 April

Caroline Gill, Manager, Continuing Professional Development, NovaUCD, will make a short

presentation to help raise Researchers’ awareness about why intellectual property is relevant to their work. It will provide an opportunity to consider how Researchers can successfully pursue a research career involving publishing, presenting at conferences etc, while still protecting potentially valuable intellectual property, and subsequently exploiting it.  This presentation will give an overview of the process involved from invention disclosure to successful commercialisation.

Following the presentation, time will be made available for a Q&A session.

Michael Ladisch, Liaison Librarian, will provide an overview of patent systems and how to search for patents using UCD Library and freely available resources. Patents are highly valued assets for innovative companies operating in the increasingly knowledge-based global economy.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in the filing of patent applications. Michael will demonstrate searching effectively for Irish, European and US patents in relevant patent databases. This will be complemented by practical exercises for participants.
