Career Workshop Series - Discipline Focus

A series of career workshops aimed at post-doctoral researchers across the university are scheduled over the coming weeks.   As part of Research Skills & Career Development the workshops will focus on three disciplines - Human Sciences/Arts/Celtic Studies;  Engineering/Maths/Phyical Sciences and Life Sciences/Conway Institute.

The first workshop which is geared towards postdocs in Human Sciences/Arts/Celtic Studies, entitled the Hidden Job Market,  takes place on 31 January.  This session deals with the process of “finding a job” and covers everything from looking at a newspaper ad to browsing the net to professional networking and maintaining an on-line presence.

It will also look at employers’ preferred channels for recruitment, touch on what employers typically look for in applicants, and enable you to develop a strategy for building your career.

Other topics being covered in this series include:

  • Making Your Case - Showing how your experience translates into job/role performance potential
  • Career-Related Research
  • Making Effective Applications
  • Interview Strategy
  • Strategic Career Planning

Each session which runs for 1hr will require a small amount of pre-workshop preparation.

For details on dates for each discipline and an outline for each session please check the RSCD Events Calendar for dates.
