A big welcome to those of you who are just staring in UCD this year, you’ve made the first step to joining what we consider the best club in the university (that’s us!). For all of you coming back for another year, well you know this already :)
Don’t worry if you missed out joining the club during Freshers Week, you can join the club by coming down to the range during training times and we can sign you up and get you started.
This years Refreshers day will take place this Tuesday, 2nd February 2016, in the Astra Hall, UCD Student Centre.
Along with all the other UCD Sports Clubs and Student Societies, UCD Rifle Club will have a stand at Refreshers Day from 10:00 to 16:00.
So if you have been thinking of joining the Rifle Club this year and just never got around to it, this is a great opportunity to come over, talk to the cool Rifle Club people, get some sweets, play some games and join the club.

With the academic semester drawing to a close, on Thursday the 26th and Sunday the 29th of November, UCD Rifle Club held its final competition of 2015: the Winter Air Open! With UCD shooters pulling some excellent results across the board.
The 60-shot pistol competition saw a close competition for first place, with WTSC's Tomas Jakubauskas taking the gold, just one point ahead of RRPC's Caroline O’Brien in second and UCD’s Mike Folan in third.
Many thanks to everyone who took part in the DURC Air Open, which was held in the UCD Rifle Club Range last Thursday (12th Nov) and Sunday (15th Nov), with some fierce competition!
In the 60-shot pistol competition, UCDRC Pistol Coaches Victoria Mullin, Tomas Jakubauskas and Caroline O'Brien took first, second and third place respectively.
UCD's Joe Thompson took gold in today's 10m Air Pistol National Championships final to the make it three National Championship titles in the past three years, while John Lancaster took Bronze to add to UCD's medal tally. The NTSA National Airgun Championships 2015, taking place this weekend (11th and 12th April) in the UCD Range, saw the Air Pistol event take place today with competitors from across the country taking part. The competition was made up of a qualification event consisting of a 60 shot competition, followed by the final for the top eight ranking athletes.
UCD shooters performed well in the qualification, with John Lancaster qualifying in 1st place, Joe Thompson in 3rd, Martha Naughton in 5th and Mike Folan in 6th. In the final Joe quickly pulled into a lead, which he built upon as the final progressed. The Defence Forces' Ray Kane pulled himself into second place with strong performance in the second half of the final, with John finishing just behind in third place.
Many thanks to everyone who took part in the UCD March Air Open 2015, which was held in the UCD Range on Thursday 26th and Sunday 29th March. There was good attendance over the two days with two of the three details completely booked out and 30 shooters taking part.
Results were strong in all displaces and all levels. In the 60 shot Air Pistol Competition Wilkinstown’s Tomas Jakubauskas took first place with a score of 552, followed by Caroline O’Brien from Rathdrum in second and UCD’s John Lancaster in third.
This years Air Rifle Intervarsities and Colours took place at Wilkinstown Target Shooting Club, Co Meath on Saturday 28th February. UCD went to Meath looking to claim a three in a row and a fifth title in six years against tough competition.
The first of the details, taking two hours each, started at 10:00 and the competition didn't finish up till almost 22:00 that night.
This year‘s UCD Air Open I was held over 3 days from the 22nd to the 30th of October. This years Air Open I was over a longer period than normal as the final detail, originally scheduled for the 25th of November was delayed, until Thursday the 30th due to the fire alarm going off just before the competition start time.
The competition saw a great turn out from UCD shooters, with 38 entries from UCDRC almost equalling last years record of 39 UCD entries. There was a strong showing across both the rifle and pistol competition, with UCD doing well in both. UCD won one medal in the pistol competition with silver going to Hui Yu Tham. UCD won 17 medals out of a possible 18 in the Rifle Competition with clean sweeps in Class B, C, D, Novice and the Overall 40 Shot Competition.
The 2014 National Air Gun championships took place over the weekend with the 10m Air Pistol National Championships on Saturday 26th and The 10 Air Rifle National Championships on Sunday 27th April.
Both events were held in the UCD Rifle Club range with competitors from around the country taking part.
UCD did exceptionally well over the two days, starting on Saturday with Joe Thompson winning the Pistol Nationals for a second year running, with a very impressive display in the final.
The UCD April Air Open was held over two days in the UCD Rifle range on Thursday the 3rd of April and on Sunday the 6th of April. As with all the competitions this year, participation by UCD shooters was again high, with 19 members of the club taking part over the two days. Carrying on from the strong performance in the Intervarsity victory, the UCD shooters produced a series of class winning scores.
In the 60 shot Air Pistol competition DURC’s Victoria Mullin took first position on a very impressive score of 578 with 22 inner 10s, a new range record for pistol. In Second position was Tomas Jakubauskas from WTSC with a score of 556, followed in third position by Caroline O’Brien of RRPC.
UCD claimed victory at the 2014 Air Rifle Intervarsities and Colours, which took place at Wilkinstown Target Shooting Club, Co Meath on Saturday 8th March. This marks a continuation of a very strong decade for UCD, making it the fourth Invervarsity title in the last five years.
The competition, which was held over six two hour details, ran from 10:00 Saturday morning to after 22:00 on Saturday night. Each college had two squads take part, a novice squad and a senior squad, with the winer of the competition determined by the combined score of the two squads.
Shooters from both UCDRC and DURC (Trinity) had been delivering strong results all season and the expectation was for a very tight competition, which added to the nerves thoughout the competition.
The first competition of 2014, the UCD January Air Open 2014 took place in four details, over Thursday 23rd and Sunday 26th January 2014. Congratulations to everyone who took part over the two days, with very good scores all round.
In the 60 shot air pistol competition Tomas Jakubauskas from WTSC took first place with a score of 553 with UCD shooter Hu Yu Tham in second and RRPC’s Caroline O’Brien in third position.
UCD Winter Air Open 2013 took place today in the UCD Rifle Club range. With over 40 entries, the Winter Air Open follows on from the high attendance in Air Open I three weeks ago.
In the 60 shot Air Pistol competition UCD’s Joe Thompson put in a fantastic score of 555 to take first place, with Rathdrum’s Caroline O’Brien taking second place with a score of 549 and Tomas Jakubauskas from Wilkinstown coming third with a score of 542.
Congratulations to all who took part in UCD Air Open I over the weekend, on Thursday 17th and Sunday 20th October.
The Air pistol competition saw some very high scores recorded over the two days with Tomas Jakubauskas taking first place with an impressive score of 547 with UCD’s Hui Yu Tham close behind with a score of 545 and Caroline O’Brien in third position with a score of 544.

Today, Sunday 8th September, saw the UCD September Air Open and the of the summer series of competitions take place in the range.
In a high scoring 60 Shot Air Pistol competition, WTSC’s Tomas Jakubauskas took first place with a score of 561 followed by Rathdrum’s Caroline O’Brien in second and John O’Brien in third. The 40 shot Air Rifle competition saw UCD’s Claire Leyden take first place with a score of 357...

In the 60 shot Air Pistol competition, WTSC’s Tomas Jakubauskas took first place with a score of 548 with Monica Flanagan from UCDRC taking second. The 40 shot Air Rifle competition saw DURC’s Aisling Miller take first place with a score of 387, followed by UCDRC’s Penny Skanavi in second place.
The UCD July Air Open 2013 was held today, 21st July, in the UCD Rifle Club range.
In the 60 shot Air Pistol competition WTSC’s Tomas Jakubauskas took the top spot with a score of 550, followed by John O’Brien from RRPC in second place and UCD’s Martha Naughton in third.
Many thanks to everyone who came out today, Sunday 30th June, for the UCD June Air Open 2013. It was a good turnout for the traditional off-season with great results achieved across the board.
DURC’s Victoria Mullin won the 60 shot pistol competition with a fantastic score of 573 and breaking the previous range air pistol record of 568, which she jointly held with Peter Friend. She was followed in second place by Caroline O’Brien from RRPC, with UCD’s John Lancaster taking third spot.
The UCD Athletic Union Council Sport Awards were held on Monday night at an event in the Student Centre. Over 450 UCD athletes were honoured at the event, from 27 different sports clubs. After an incredibly successful year, the Rifle Club had 25 members eligible to receive sports awards, the highest number in the history of the club and one of the highest numbers from any UCD club this year.
Good luck to UCD pistol coaches Caroline O’Brien and Victoria Mullin who are both taking part in the ISSF World Cup in Munich this week. Caroline is taking part in the 10m Air Pistol competition while Victoria is taking part in the 25m Pistol and the 10m Air Pistol competitions. There are four World Cups per year, making them along with the Continental championships the highest level of the Olympic Shooting Sports.
UCDRC wishes to thank everyone who turned out during the two days of UCD April Air Open 2013, on Thursday 4th and Sunday 7th April. There was a good turnout with strong scores across the board.
In the 60 shot pistol competition Victoria Mullin from DURC took first place in the 60 Shot pistol competition with a fantastic score of 568, equaling her score in the February Air Open and the range air pistol competition record set by Peter Friend in October 2011. She was followed in second place by WTSC’s UCD’s Tomas Jakubauskas and Hui Yu from UCD in third.
UCD claimed a third victory in four years at the annual Intervarsities and Colours Air Rifle competition, which was held on Saturday 9th March, in Wilkinstown Target shooting Club, Co. Meath.
The standard of shooting was exceptionally high all year and everyone was expecting a tight competition on the day.
Both the UCD and TCD (DURC) squads arrived in Wilkinstown early on Saturday morning, where the first of six details started at 10:00.
UCD Rifle Club wishes to thank everyone who attended and took part in the UCD February Air Open over the Thursday and Sunday details (14th and 17th Feb). There was a very large turnout, with 48 entries in total over the five details.
Scores were high with many personal bests put in. In the 60 shot air pistol competition DURC’s Victoria Mullin steamed to victory putting in a fantastic 568, with Tomas Jakubauskas from Wilkinstown coming in second with 547 and Rathdrums John O’Brien taking third place.
Many thanks to all who came out in the stormy, cold conditions today for the UCD January Air Open 2013. There was a good turnout with 43 entries over the two days and five details (Thursday 24th and Sunday 27th).
Today (Sunday 6th January) saw the first competition of the year, the UCD New Years Air Open, take place in the UCD Rifle Club Range. A strong start to the year with a total of 20 competitors taking part over the two details, putting in strong scores in both rifle and pistol.
Good luck to Caroline O’Brien and Peter Friend who are representing Ireland in Luxembourg at RIAC 2012 this week (Wednesday 13th - Satruday 15th December)
On the back of taking first (Peter) and third (Caroline) places in the 10m Air Pistol National Championships two weeks ago we hope they do very well over in Luxembourg. Caroline is one of our pistol coaches and Peter is a regular face at UCD competitions.
They are each shooting in three competitions on Thursday (today), Friday and Saturday.

Congregations to everyone who took part today in the UCD Winter Air Open 2012 on Thursday 29th November and today, 2nd December. The competition saw a very good turnout over the two days and five details, with a total of 51 entries and high standards across the board. The 2012 NTSA 10m air pistol National Championships were held concurrently with the three Sunday details.
The Dublin University Rifle Club Golden Jubilee Air Gun Open took place on Thursday 8th and today, Sunday 11th November 2012, in the UCD Rifle Club Range. There was a really good turn out with a total of 49 entries of which 26 were from UCD. There were really strong proformances from all sides with UCD shooters winning medals in each class and in the overall events as well.
In total UCD brought home 10 medals including 1st and 3rd in the 60 shot air rifle competition, 2nd and 3rd in the 40 shot air rifle competition and 2nd in the air pistol competition as well as medals in each class.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the competition at the weekend (Thursday 18th and Sunday 21st October), it was great to see so many UCD shooters taking part! In total there were 31 UCD entries, one of the largest entries we’ve had for a while.
The air pistol competition saw some very high scores over the two days, but it was UCD’s Hui Yu Tham who claimed first place with an impressive score of 558 with Tomas Jakubauskas and Caroline O’Brien seperated by inner 10’s for second and third place.
