Intervarsities and Colours 2015

This years Air Rifle Intervarsities and Colours took place at Wilkinstown Target Shooting Club, Co Meath on Saturday 28th February. UCD went to Meath looking to claim a three in a row and a fifth title in six years against tough competition. The first of the details, taking two hours each, started at 10:00 and the competition didn’t finish up till almost 22:00 that night

. Each college had two teams take part, a novice team and a senior team, with the overall winner of the Intervarsities determined by the combined score of the two teams. Scores had been close all year for both UCDRC and DURC (Trinity), so there was expectation of a tight competition and the tension was palpable in the range. Both the UCD Novice and Senior teams shot very well during the course of the day, with many personal best archived. The DURC shooters also on form and the competition was only decided in the last detail.

After the last shot was taken and the final scores were tallied it became apparent how close the competition was. The senior teams had tied on a score of 2745, the first tie in the history of the competition. It was all down to the results of the novice teams and DURC had edged ahead with some exceptional performances to take the Novice Competition by 90 points. The individual novice award went to DURC’s Dinara Isaeva with a score of 560 and the overall individual award went to Stephen Murphy with a score of 579.

UCDRC would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the shooters who took part this weekend for their achievements and the range officers and coaches from both clubs for their time and dedication in training and coaching all shooters to such a high level throughout the year. A special word of thanks also goes to Wilkinstown Target Shooting Club and Geoff Cooney for hosting the competition once again in the WTSC range.
