Erasmus Exchange

SBBS operates two Erasmus exchange schemes for Stage 4 students, providing the opportunity to complete their research project in another university.  This will allow you to experience another culture for an extended period, to encounter a different university system and to carry out your project in a stimulating research environment.  As agreed by the Erasmus scheme, you do not pay any any tuition fees to the host university but instead you continue to register with UCD and pay your normal registration fee.  A small grant is also made available to qualifying students.

The application deadline for both exchange programmes is in February for the following September.

An information meeting is held in Semester 2 prior to the application deadline.  For further information on either of these exchanges contact the School’s Erasmus programme coordinator Dr Jana Haase or the School manager Dr Heather Wood

The Copenhagen exchange programme

The Copenhagen exchange programme is run in conjunction with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PHARMA), University of Copenhagen.  It is available to Stage 4 SBBS students whose project interests and academic suitability are aligned with what is on offer.

All aspects of this  programme are delivered in English.  Students will register for a research project (25 credits) which they will complete during semester 1. Students will return to UCD for semester 2 for completion of the remaining 35 credits of their degree programme.  The additional semester 2 module that will be required of Erasmus students may be discussed with the student’s Head of Subject.

Ruhr Universität Bochum, Germany

A second exchange scheme is available to Stage 4 Neuroscience students at the Ruhr Universität Bochum, Germany, for semester 1. One Neuroscience student will have the opportunity to complete their research project  in the lab of Prof Jörg Tatzelt, who specialises in the area of neurodegenerative diseases.
