Maximum Likelihood Estimation for fitting paramaters of a stochastic model

MLEs provide an alternative to regression methods such as least squares when attempting to fit model parameters to experimental data - in our particular case, determinging transcription rate from protein profile as in Finkenstadt et al (2008). The current focus of research is to develop a tool that can do this for data with relatively constant transcription rates such as in Bruning et al (2012), and enable us to carry out a comparison with regression to see if MLEs provide a viable (faster/more accurate) alternative.
