Aug'12 Update on new SBI building

Mon, 20 August, 2012

Systems Biology Ireland (SBI) is delighted to report that work is well underway on its new home, the Science Link Building based on the Belfield campus of UCD. Given the interdisciplinary nature of systems biology, it was decided that a new state-of-the-art facility would provide researchers with the ability to work in as synergistic an environment as possible. The new facility, once completed, will consist of laboratory, write-up and break-out areas, support accommodation and physical connections to the adjoining Health Sciences and Conway Institute buildings.

The design team, led by RKD Architects, worked on a phased development of the new building. Design, planning and enabling works were carried out for an integrated design for both Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1, which was completed in 2011, includes 600sq.m linkages between Health Sciences, the Conway Institute and the Charles Institute. These areas primarily include break-out and plant room areas and will be available to all users of this exciting new facility.

Systems Biology Ireland Director Walter Kolch says, he is delighted with the progress to date. “We are all very excited about this new facility that will enable our researchers to carry out best in class work,” said Professor Kolch.
