BSc (Hons) Pharmacology, PhD
After graduation I stayed in the Pharmacology Department in UCD and I completed my PhD in Professor Michael Ryan’s Lab in 1997. I then went to work in the United States in Philadelphia, where I was a Postdoctoral Fellow for three and half years in the Lab of Dr James Mullin in the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research.
On my return to Ireland in 2001 I worked at GlaxoSmithKline in Rathfarnham. I worked in the Medical Department where I gave scientific advice with regard to the different pharmaceutical products supplied by the Company to the Irish Market. This included working closely with the Medical Information, Regulatory Affairs, Sales and Marketing Departments. I was involved in training staff on the background and use of different products. I also gave clinical updates and presentations on specific disease areas and Company Products to Physicians and Nurses throughout the country.
Since February 2003, I have worked in the Civil Service as a Forensic Scientist at Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. I work in the Biology section of the Lab where we deal with cases such as murders, assaults and sexual assaults. We also attend the scenes of some serious crimes and give training to An Garda Siochana.
