BSc (Biochemistry), HDip
At secondary school, I was lucky in that I knew that I wanted to have a go at becoming a science and maths teacher. So choosing a science degree was a very obvious choice. Having taken Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Leaving Cert made the course easier in first year, but I think chemistry was the most useful.
I decided on an undergraduate in science first, and trained for a year to become a teacher afterwards...just in case I didn’t like teaching. I’m still enjoying it! I advise students who are interested in science, but not exactly sure what area, to take on a science degree and make up your mind during the course. You can use a science degree from UCD to move into any area afterwards.s.
