How to apply?

Science Study Abroad applications are accepted online via www.ucd.ie/apply
The application deadlines are as follows:

  • Full year or first semester (Fall): May 1st  2011
  • Second semester (Spring): October 15th  2011

Tuition Fees

The 2011/12 fee rates are as follows:

  • Science modules only:
    • Per Semester €9,000
    • Full academic year €17,500

  • Science modules with up to two non-science modules:
    • Per Semester €8,000
    • Full academic year €15,500
Eligibility

The minimum GPA requirement is normally 3.00 or above. In addition to completing the online application, an up-to-date original transcript plus an academic reference should accompany all applications

Programme Information

Full year: up to 12 modules
One semester: up to 6 modules
Average weekly load: 12 lecture hours with associated laboratory classes where appropriate.

Science Study Abroad students may take up to a maximum of two non-Science modules per semester. The non-Science modules may be chosen from a number of programmes across the university. Module information can be found at www.ucd.ie/students/course_search.htm

Please note that while every effort will be made to facilitate student requests, module choice will be subject to space availability and timetable constraints

Academic Year Planner

Fall Semester: Teaching starts in early September and finishes in early December which will be followed by examinations which may run up to Christmas week.
Spring Semester: Teaching starts in mid January and finishes at the end of April. A mid-term break of 2 weeks exists in March and exams will be held after the end of semester, usually the end of April or early May.

Examinations

Examinations take place at the end of each semester.

Credit Transfer

The sending institution will make the decision in regard to the transfer of credit. UCD will provide full course descriptions to facilitate this.

Accommodation

Science Study Abroad students are eligible for on-campus accommodation. Students generally share a three/four bedroom apartment with two or three other students, with kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Contacting Home

All Study Abroad students receive their own email account as soon as they arrive on campus. This makes it easy to stay in touch with home and contact friends or staff.

Sports Facilities

UCD has the best on-campus sports facilities available in any Irish university. Facilities include 30 first class pitches, 5 floodlit tennis courts, athletics track and a large indoor sports center with squash courts, sports halls and gymnasium. The National Hockey Stadium is located on campus. The choice of available sport is extensive with over 55 clubs offering a full range of activities at all levels of proficiency. www.ucd.ie/sport

Student Health

The Student Health Centre is a free, confidential service available to all registered UCD students. Services available include general practice doctors, nurses, psychiatric care and psychologists. For further information, please see: www.ucd.ie/stuhealth

Student Welfare

The Science Programme has a Student Adviser and Chaplain who along with academic and administrative support staff are happy to give support and assistance to students experiencing social, personal or emotional problems of any kind. We operate an ‘Open Door’ policy and you are welcome to drop by anytime. Additionally, the International Office offers support to all our international students. www.ucd.ie/advisers
