UCD Science Research Showcase - Science everyone can understand
On Tuesday 20 November 2012 the UCD College of Science welcomed Professor Mark Ferguson (Science Foundation Ireland), Dr Claire O'Connell and UCD Staff to the launch of the UCD Science Research Showcase. This publication aims to engage with a wider audience by sharing some highlights of work undertaken in the College.
The UCD Science Research Showcase tells the story of a selection of academics from across Science through interviews, mostly with Dr Claire O’Connell, well know freelance journalist and science writer. With a broad audience in mind, stories are written in a tone that everyone can enjoy.
They offer the reader an opportunity to appreciate challenges, successes and what it takes to translate scientific endeavour into something that has meaning beyond university boundaries that is contributing to knowledge and society.
“Our academics invest considerable effort and dedication into exploring new horizons and pushing the boundaries of Science," said Professor Joe Carthy, UCD College of Science Principal and Dean of Science. "Findings are shared regularly with peers and experts trough scientific publications or technology transfer, yet sharing those stories with the public at large happens less frequently. This is why we created this new format represented by our UCD Science Showcase. We hope readers will have a pleasant and interesting experience.”
Professor Mark Ferguson from Science Foundation Ireland joined Professor Joe Carthy in presenting each academic featured with a copy of the publication in recognition of their work and contribution.
