On Friday 24 November 2017 the annual gradireland Higher Education Awards & Symposium took place. At the ceremony, the MSc Actuarial Science was announced as the winner of the Postgraduate Course of the Year in the Science category sponsored by Boston Scientific. This is the second year in succession that the MSc Actuarial Science has won this award. The MSc Biotechnology and Business from the UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science was also nominated in the Postgraduate Course of the Year in Science category.

The awards aim to recognise and celebrate postgraduate courses all across Ireland. Courses are judged on such criteria as employability, links with industry, the student experience, and the research excellence record of its academics. The judging panel remarked that the MSc Actuarial Science is "a strong course with excellent career prospects, stemming not least from the great links with other accreditation bodies and industry."

The programme director Dr Adrian O'Hagan accepted the award on behalf of the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics. Speaking afterwards, Dr O'Hagan said "I would like to thank the current and past students from the programme for their hard work and achievements and the excellent support from the lecturing and administrative team that helps to make it a success”.
