Working in Meteorology

Ag obair i Meitéareolaíocht

There are opportunities for graduates in subjects such as Physics and Mathematics in many Government agencies such as Met Éireann, the Marine Institute, the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Environmental Protection Agency. Some of the jobs available will require an additional postgraduate qualification. European National Meteorological Services and Geological Agencies also provide opportunities for employment. There are an increasing number of commercial weather organizations seeking staff, for example, Fugro, WSI, Meteogroup and Accuweather. This is a growth area, so there should be more opportunities in the future.

The main function of a forecaster involves providing weather forecasts and warnings to the general public and special interest clients in 'order to save lives and property'. "
