About us

The Science Apprentice book series allows children to explore science, technology, engineering and maths in a way that is tangible and inspiring.

Delve into the world of science and engineering with Science Apprentice! Join Izzy and Phil as they explore new research and discoveries happening in Ireland. Meet the fascinating people who work in different areas of science, find out what they do and why they love it!

The 2018 book series deals with four new topics! Journey with Phil, Izzy, Rover and Schrödinger as they travel all around Ireland speaking to scientists and researchers to learn about how super our bodies are, what goes on up in the air, how things are made, and why everything is not always as it seems.

The Science Apprentice project is possible thanks to funding from the Science Foundation Ireland Discover Programme which aims to increase interest in STEM among students, teachers and members of the public. The project is also supported by the Environmental Protection Agency along with partners Irish Independent and SuperValu.

Orla Feely

"I really hope you enjoy reading about all the research that is happening across Ireland in the Science Apprentice series. Every day, researchers work together to come up with new ways to solve problems and to make our lives better. Have fun reading the books and learning about the science, technology, engineering and maths of the world around us. Keep asking questions and remember you can think like a scientist too."

Prof. Orla Feely
Vice-President for Research, Innovation & Impact, University College Dublin
