SIF funded Initiatives at UCD

Introduction

The Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) is a multi-annual fund which is directed towards support for innovation, collaboration and reform in Higher Education. Through SIF, the HEA is supporting projects aimed at improving teaching and learning, supporting institutional reform, promoting access and lifelong learning and supporting the development of fourth level education. The Dublin Region Higher Education Alliance (DRHEA) is a highly innovative partnership of eight Higher Education institutions in the Dublin area, funded by SIF cycle II, which coordinates and governs collaborative activity between the institutions.

UCD was successful in securing €1.85m under cycle I of the SIF programme (from 2006 to 2011) and under cycle II of SIF (from 2008 to 2011) over €4.85m has been allocated to date.

In a government commissioned external evaluation of the SIF fund, UCD received positive commentary on the SIF I and SIF II projects it both leads and collaborates on. The DRHEA (under which UCD is the largest award recipient) was well supported in this evaluation.

The full evaluation report may be found on the HEA website, or by clicking here.
